Quantum Leap Consultancy uses Bentley software in Salt Lake City EXTON, Pa March 15, 2002 Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that Quantum Leap Consultancy (QLC) used Bentley s ActiveAsset Planner"! solution to manage the conversion of the Salt Lake City Olympic Athletes village for the 2002 Winter Paralympics Games. Also used in the planning and operations for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, the ActiveAsset Planner system is being used to manage 11,226 building spaces, 2,288 telephones and 64,000 items of fixtures, furniture and equipment. The Closing Ceremony of the Winter Olympics was on Sunday, February 24, 2002, and the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Paralympic Games took place in Salt Lake City on Thursday, March 7, 2002, providing just 10 days to reconfigure the Athletes Village. The Salt Lake Organizing Committee was responsible for managing the logistics of converting 200 buildings on the University of Utah campus into an Athletes Village for both the 2002 Winter Olympics and the 2002 Winter Paralympics. After the Games are finished, the Village will then be converted back to a functioning university. The Committee chose QLC to develop and operate a customized computerized solution to manage the spaces and assets of the campus for this entire process. Quantum Leap used Bentley s ActiveAsset Planner as the foundation for the system. "We congratulate Quantum Leap for their fine Olympic performances in Sydney and Salt Lake City, and we are proud that ActiveAsset Planner was the basis for their success," said Greg Bentley, CEO of Bentley Systems, Incorporated. "One outstanding aspect of ActiveAsset Planner is that it allows facilities information to be stored in an industry-standard database format, making it easily customizable for specific applications." Bentley ActiveAsset Planner aggregates facility information in plans, documents and databases to help facility management professionals track corporate space and assets, from deployment to decommissioning. It allows quick and easy access to information on the location and state of space and assets and makes this information available on the fly, visualized in a drawing--using Bentley MicroStation® for 2D or 3D displays--or in alphanumeric reports. Just as the Olympics represent the ultimate test of an athlete's capabilities it also represents the ultimate test of commercial IT solutions. I am very proud of how our team has been able to exploit the power of Bentley's technology to meet the demands of the 2002 Olympic Games." commented Marc Forestieri QLC President. QLC began tailoring a system to suit the Salt Lake City Games immediately following a highly successful implementation of ActiveAsset Planner at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Although the Winter Games are about a quarter the size of the Summer Games, the requirements of this system were significantly greater. In Sydney, the Village was created from new empty buildings. There was no furniture to move out before the Olympic requirements were to be moved in. At the end of the Games, all assets were to be removed. At Salt Lake, because the Village was a functioning University, much of the furniture and assets would have to be moved out, but not all, as some University items could be used for the Athletes. At the completion of the Paralympics, all buildings will be restored to their original function, any damage repaired, Olympic assets moved out, and the University assets moved back in.
